i'm still alive, don't worry.
big apologies to all winners that I haven't been able to get prizes to yet... after I got back from a vacation a couple months ago, a lot has happened since that was unexpected in the financial sense.
all who is I still owe will get what they deserve, hopefully within the next month or two.
again, so sorry. this is the first time I've ever had stuff come up like this, hindering my ability to make prompt awardments of prizes and I feel horrible for it.
Okay, so to begin with, thank you to everyone who participated. The turnout was far better than I anticipated, and due to such it became one of my hardest contests to judge as of late!
Before I go on to announce the main place-holders, I wanted to let everyone know the basis of what I judged on after all the opinions and thoughts I got from those who I consulted for a bit of help...
Obviously. I wanted to be able to both see and get the feeling that the artist put a lot of work into their piece, and didn't just toss it together at the last minute.
Can also be referred to as concept originality, I wanted to see how everyone interpreted the ideas and characters given to them, bringing their own ideas to life at the same time.
More or less how true to the character details an artist stayed. I didn't mind artistic liberties to an extent, but at the same time there are certain aspects of characters that, if forgotten, were too strong to overlook no matter how much I might of enjoyed the piece otherwise.
There has been slight changes in the offered prizes in order to accommodate some things...
* First place stays the same
* Second place gets $125 instead of the original $100
* Third place gets $65 instead of the original $50
(and as usual, my explanations suck horribly...)
This picture, from the first time I laid eyes on it, blew me away.
The layout concept, while a tried and true formula, was executed flawlessly.
I love the character placements, and how she managed to include all of them,
but at the same time do so in a manner that doesn't seem overpowering.
I also admit that I still love how Liliana's cloak dissolves into the butterflies...
And the slight foreshadowing feel I get from the partially summoned phoenix of Eric's.
Unlike most of the other pieces, this one uses darker, more muted colours save for the
brightness of the phoenix that stands out against the rest - fitting, I suppose.
Regardless, despite being somewhat simplistic in general concept, the ideas behind the
execution seemed anything but, and were as enjoyable to read as the image itself is to view.
There is a general eerie/mystical feel to this piece that I couldn't help but love.
Like the others, I liked the concept and the ideas behind why the artist chose to draw
what they did, and why certain elements were implemented the way that they were.
If you placed first, second or third, please send me a note with your PayPal information so I can send over your cash prizes! Or, if you otherwise prefer the points equivalent, let me know that as well... please remember that as I stated before, I am not doing conversions, so all prizes are awarded in USD.
The next are last minute award additions that I decided upon due to the sheer number of entries (read: judging woes). However, while I do have enough funds saved to send off all the original promised prizes, it might take me a month or two to be able to send out the ones for the following winners - EVERYBODY WILL GET THEIR PRIZES, HOWEVER, SO PLEASE BE SURE TO SEND ME A NOTE WITH YOUR PAYPAL INFORMATION (so I can send everything out as I am able
